The Highlands At Sugar

We tried someplace new when the hotels were booked while visiting Lees-McRae. Absolutely beautiful view to wake up to! Staff was nice. Place was spacious, clean and comfy but had some disappointments...7 channels, couldn't use fireplace, limited parking. However, it was well worth the price, and we will definitely add this to our list of places to stay again.

The rooms were fine. They were clean and comfortable. The kitchen had what we needed to cook and eat. The location was beautiful. My only issue was how much we had to do for check out. We had to do the dishes, pull the linen, gather all the trash and take it to the dumpster. I should have gotten a discount for helping housekeeping.

We just got back and it was the best place I have been to in the mountains. The views were breath taking! The rooms was perfect and clean! The amenities were excellent, swimming pool, game room and jacuzzi were all clean! We stayed in the 2 bedroom condo and it was equipped with 2 king beds and 2 pull out couches and accommodated every one of us. There is no AC BUT they supply box fans and we went in August and it never was an issue. I hope to make this a yearly trip to this place because my family absolutely enjoyed it! The price was spot on and hopefully it stays affordable. If I had to nit pick I would say maybe a nature trail would be great to walk to the amenities but honestly with the possibility of bears being around the area I can absolutely understand why driving down to the pool is safer. We had everything we need for the stay right at the condo down to laundry powder. They even offer towels at the pool area. It was a breeze to check in and out! Thank you so much for such a great stay.

Choosing this place for our vacation was a disappointment. They kept the key in a lockbox but didn't inform any guests about the password. There were no notifications, emails, or any form of communication. We couldn't reach their contact number for over 2 hours. As a result, our large group was left stranded outside in the dark, cold mountainous area where bears might be present. We were out there until 11 pm. We were literally stacked because other hotels were all booked up in the red leaf season. It was only after someone called the police that we managed to get in touch with the property and access the key. Additionally, the check-out time is 10 am and check-in is after 4 pm, but their office closes at 5 pm. ------ update after 45 days I was promised by the property to have a partial compensation about the experience and that it is going to be processed within 7 days. However, despite my repeated attempts to contact your office for an update 5 times in a month and half, I have yet to receive any refund. Each time, I was told that a manager was unavailable in a conference and they are being extremely rude and hung up my phone call.
